Donald S. Mueller is Vice President, Research and Development, USG Corporation. In this role, he oversees the management and direction of the USG Research and Technology Center in Libertyville, Illinois to efficiently serve the needs of the businesses with the development of new and improved products, processes and systems for the construction and building products industries. Dr. Mueller joined USG Corporation in January, 2005. Previously, he was the director of industry and state relations for the Environmental Science Institute at The Ohio State University. Dr. Mueller has had a distinguished career in research and development and has held senior level, technical positions at Rohm & Haas, Johnson & Johnson, and Ashland Specialty Chemical Co., where he was vice president and chief technology officer. His background and experience spans technologies inherent in thermoplastic resins, coatings, adhesives, thermoset composites, dental materials and non-woven fabrics. Dr. Mueller has been active in several professional associations including the Council for Chemical Research, The American Chemical Society and the Industrial Research Institute. He served on the IRI?s board of directors and was chairman in 2003. Additionally, he has served on Hiram College?s President?s Council on Science Initiatives and on the board of the Edison Polymer Innovation Council. He currently serves as Chairman of the Industrial Advisory Board for Battelle?s Pacific Northwest Labs. Dr. Mueller received a Bachelor?s degree in chemistry from Hiram College in Ohio and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois.
